April Genovese received her Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Sciences at California PolytechnicUniversity of Pomona and continued her education by earning a Masters of Psychology from Pepperdine University. April is currently attending Azusa Pacific University, where she is in advanced standing as she works towards completing her doctorate (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology with an Emphasis in Family Psychology.

April is currently working on research at UCLA’s Semel Institute’s, Anxiety Disorder Clinic on Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and Bipolar Depression as well as Social Anxiety and Rumination. She is currently being certified for another study with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and Obsessive- Compulsive Disorder. Her past research interests have included complex
trauma and resiliency factors.

April’s clinical experience includes working with children, adolescents, and adults with complex trauma, depression, panic disorder, social anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, adjustment disorders, and stress, as well as other areas of focus. April uses cognitive behavioral therapy from a family therapy lens, which focuses on treating the whole person. She is also trained
in other modalities (mindfulness, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure response prevention, play therapy, psychodynamic) as she likes to tailor her treatments to meet her client’s unique needs. April has worked in various settings that include outpatient psychiatric, community mental health, university counseling, private practice, and high school counseling. April currently works under the supervision of David Plotkin, PhD.
